[Stanley Howard arrived in Australia early in 1872, following an invitation from Bishop Frederic Barker to move to New South Wales.He studied for the ministry at Moore College, Liverpool, and was ordained a priest by Barker on 23 May 1875. He returned to England in 1878 where he married Mary Anna Nash. He returned with his wife to Sydney in November 1878 and was appointed to the new parish of Bowral-Nattai in the southern tablelands of New South Wales. In 1880 he built a parsonage at Bowral and promoted a school of arts. According to Rachel Roxburgh Stanley Howard, in the company of Bishop Barker, first met Elizabeth Broughton Throsby at the Cottage at Throsby Park in 1872. Elizabeth Throsby lent Throsby Park house to Bishop Barker and his wife for the summer months of 1873-74.]
