R. Major was a music engraver, printer and publisher at 43, Bedford Street, Strand c1800-18 (Parkinson); 1, Clare Court, Drury Lane c 1818-20; 7, High Holborn 1820. He ran a cheap music warehouse. (Exeter Working Papers in Book History).

Most of the scores in the Miss Margaret Hazlitt volume of music have watermarks in the paper dating from 1811-1817. It is probable that the scores were published between 1811 and 1822. Margaret Hazlitt also wrote her name and 1817 on a number of scores in this volume.
