Emily Frances Horne (1844-1921) was born in Singleton, NSW. She was the daughter of convict-turned constable Samuel Henry Horne, after whom the Sydney suburb 'Hornsby' was named. Some of the sheet music in Emily's collection is inscribed 'Sydney 1860' and may have been acquired on a visit to town or associated with her schooling. In 1870, she married a German-born grocer Henry Ohmsen (1844-1878) who it was reported in her obituary had been a 'fine tenor singer and a well-known figure in local musical circles'.

Miss Sarah Flower (1823-1865) performed in Melbourne in 1850. She was a contralto vocalist and a teacher of singing.
Dating: Kern & Mader were in partnership and at the 7 Hunter Street address during the period 1846 to 1853 (Neidorf). Sarah Flower only arrived in Australia in February 1850 to perform in Melbourne.
