Exercise book [121 pages] ; 21 cm.
An early domestic manuscript anthology produced in Australia. Copied as a single self-contained project over a relatively short period, it was compiled largely from two London printed collections of dance music, probably soon after the latter, published
in 1880, reached Australia. For solo piano, indexed on inside front cover, plus one item in a different hand on a loose sheet, with fingering marks.

Original sources: Christmas album of dance music: consisting of quadrilles, valses, polkas & galops by D'Albert, Koenig, Jullien, etc. London: Chappell &Co., approximately 1861 -- Sheard's Annual of Dance Music for 1880. London: Charles Sheard, Musical Bouquet Office, [1879]. This volume, while not otherwise documented in Australia, was advertised in New Zealand in September 1880 among a shipment of "New Music" recently arrived from London. (ref. Dr Graeme Skinner,2011)

Although part of the Throsby Park music collection, a personal link to the Throsby family is yet to be established. This item may have belonged to an adolescent girl, and could be a lesson book and/or the combined work of the contents page signatories: Miss M. Brothers, Quirindi ; Miss A.
