John George Henry Jay, violinist, born 27 November 1770, son of Stephen Jay of Leytonstone, Essex; studied violin and composition with John Hindmarsh and Francis Phillips; returned to England in 1800 after study abroad and became a teacher and violinist; composed several works; died in Chelsea on 29 August 1849.(ODNB).
Most of the scores in the Miss Margaret Hazlitt volume of music have watermarks in the paper dating from 1811-1817. It is probable that the scores were published between 1811 and 1822. Margaret Hazlitt also wrote her name and 1817 on a number of scores in this volume. Phillips & Co. at 17 Old Bond Street address circa 1817-1820 (Parkinson).
