Description:
From left to right, the businesses shown in this photograph of Macquarie Street, Dubbo, between Wingewarra and Church Streets, are the Royal Hotel, Thomas Curtis (watchmaker and jeweller), Gill & Stevens (Overland Stores) and the Dubbo Flour Mills.
Joshua Gill and James Spencer Stevens had an erratic byusines relationship, dissolving their first partnership as general storekeepers in Dubbo in April 1871 (ref. Sydney Morning Herald 6.5.1871 p.9) but buying the Overland Stores together in May 1875 (ref. SMH 19.6.1875 p.3) and trading and Stevens and Co. This partnership was in turn dissolved in March 1880. (ref. SMH 2.4.1880 p.1)
