Description:
Photographer identified from another copy held in the collection of the State Library of NSW. At the time this album was compiled Bentham was occupied by Albert Glaze Cureton and his family. Photographs from this album were first published in the June 1918 issue of the magazine "Properties & Premises" a monthly publication of the auctioneers Hardie & Gorman. The property was first offered for private sale in June 1918 and then at public auction in September 1918. In November 1920, following the sale of the property, the 'complete household appointments and effects contained in the residence' were sold at auction by James R. Lawson. The auction catalogue identifies the statue as lot 239 "Rebecca at the Well", "a superb statue, in pure carrara marble" standing in the fountain in the top garden.
The family group being served afternoon tea by the [Aboriginal?] maid presumably include Mrs Annie Alfreda Cureton (1866-1951), her husband Albert Glaze Cureton (1869-1944) and their children Tara Myee Cureton (1896-1988), Alfreda E Cureton (1898-1921), Gilbert B Cureton (1900-1967) and Albert Lyndon Cureton (1902-1950).
