This photographic print is pasted in on page 71 of a leather-bound folio album containing 62 sketches and watercolours and 33 early photographs, many signed by or attributable to Thomas Wingate (1807-69), former British army officer and second husband of Eleanor Terry nee Rouse (1813-1898).
Seated in the centre of the image is Hannah Rouse (nee Hipkins) wife of Edwin Rouse, with two of her daughters (Emma and Lizzie) standing on her left. Her youngest daughter Phoebe stands with her brothers Richard, the eldest, and Edwin Stephen, the youngest, behind two seated ladies, members of the household.
