This view, looking down George Street, shows the the Commercial Bank on the corner of George and Barrack Streets with the Bank of New South Wales on the western corner of George and Wynyard Streets. The edge of the premises of David Jones & Co, drapers and outfitters can be seen on the extreme left of the photograph.
This photograph may have been one of a series of 'Photographic Illustrations of Sydney. The Streets, Public Buildings, Views in the Harbour, Botanic Gardens, Suburbs, &c.' distributed by J.R. Clarke, Book Print and Music Seller, Depot for Photographs, 23, Hunter-street, Sydney in 1870.
