Description:
This brick cottage was built around 1917 for William Brettell Macduff (1877-1946), a master plumber. Macduff was born in Gympie, Queensland in 1877, son of George Macduff and his wife Martha Louden. The house name, Louden, was thus Macduff's mother's maiden name.
The photographer, A E Foster, lived in Victoria Road Gladesville and worked in the district from around 1916 until the 1940s, recording a number of newly-built federation style houses, mostly including their occupants. In the 1920s he worked as a photographer for the Sydney Mail and is also known to have worked for the Water Board and the railways.
