Description:
Donald Mackay Barnet, son of James and Amy Barnet, was born 19th October 1869 at "Braeside" in Ross Street, Forest Lodge, Sydney. His father James was the NSW Colonial Architect. While a student at St Andrew's College, University of Sydney, Donald became friends with James Thomas (Tom) Thorburn and in the 1890s was a regular visitor to Meroogal, the McKenzie/Thornburn family home in Nowra. In 1894 he married Thorburn's niece, Jessie Catherine Macgregor (1869-1946). Like Tom Thorburn, Barnet was a minister of the Presbyterian Church.
