This carte-de-visite is one item within a small album containing photographs of members of the extended Rouse and Terry families. Mary was the eldest surviving child of Richard Rouse (1774-1843) and his wife Elizabeth nee Adams (1774-1849). She was born in England on 13 January 1799. She came to New South Wales with her parents as free settlers on the 'Nile' in 1801. She married Jonathan Hassall (1798-1843) at St John's church Parramatta in November 1819. [ref.
