Description:
Cazneaux took several photographs of six-year-old Leslie in 1933 when Leslie was living with his mother Dora and step-father Eric Sheller in a house called Fairacre in Wahroonga. Some were taken at Dora's request and others on commission for The Home magazine. This study, in which Leslie holds a copy of The Ideal Home, was made at Cazneaux's own request. Cazneaux wrote to Dora Sheller on 23 March 1933 enclosing some proofs and adding that "next week I would like to make a study of Leslie sitting in that old fashioned chair". On 4 May he wrote again enclosing more proofs and remaking that "the ones of Leslie I took in the chair are lovely and worth the trouble I took." The image survives only in the Walford archive, in a proof format.
