Shaw’s etching is dated 29 March 1934 and is one of a series of etchings of 'Vanishing Landmarks' of Sydney, picturesque features from 'the old colonial days' that he produced for publication in the Sydney Telegraph. One of the catalysts for Shaw's project was the demolition in August 1933 of the Macquarie Street mansion Burdekin House.
