Description:
The young man at back left in this group photograph of five men dressed in evening clothes, all wearing top hats and buttonholes, is Leslie Nicholl Walford, the youngest of seven sons born to Sydney merchant William Barnard Walford and his wife Elizabeth Tovey Simons/Symonds. Three sons survived to adulthood together with two daughters. The eldest son, also William Barnard Walford, died in 1882 but the other men in this photograph, which seems to have been taken on a special occasion, may have included Leslie Walford's brother Sydney Rundle Walford (1857-1949) and and his brothers-in-law. Thomas Read (1847-1932) and Francis Albert Broughton (1855-1912).
