Umberleigh (Warrawee, N.S.W.)
Description:
This house, named Umberleigh, was built in 1906 for Warrawee orchardist, builder and landlord, Joseph Sainty (1863-1953). Joseph married Jessie Rankin Cowan (1872-1965) in April 1891 and they had eleven children between 1892 and 1911. This was the second of three houses built for Joseph and Jessie Sainty as their family grew.
The architect of Umberleigh was probably Oliver Harley ( 1854-1921) who called tenders for the erection of a residence at Turramurra in late May-early June 1906 (NSW Contract Reporter 6 June 1906). The contractor was E.E. Ayles.
Provenance:
Gift of Malcolm Sainty, 2016.
