Description:
This panoramic view of the garden and grounds in front of Turanville near Scone, created through a sequence of five photographs, was taken in 1889 when Turanville was the property of Thomas Cook (1834-1912). It was a large pastoral estate near Scone, renowned as a horse-breeding establishment, producing racehorses as well as remounts for the Indian Army. The annual sale of Turanville-bred horses attracted buyers from all parts of Australasia and India.
Thomas Cook is visible in the central image of the panorama standing towards the back of the garden, behind a fountain. His wife Charlotte, with two pet dogs can be seen in the image at the extreme left of the sequence and two young women wearing straw boaters, possibly nieces, are visible in the panel on the extreme right.
