Description:
This dimly-lit view of a corner of a sitting-room in what might be a two-story terrace house, offers a number of clues about the inhabitants of the house. A radiogram is squeezed awkardly into a space under the stair next to a sideboard. A framed picture - an impressionist oil painting? - hangs on the wall behind the piano. On the same wall there are two large framed photographs, one a wedding photo with the groom in World War 1 uniform. In the other photograph, the same couple?, the man is also in uniform. A smaller framed photograph of a small girl sitting on a rocker hangs near the wedding photograph. Another framed picture hangs above the curtained doorway leading to another room.
The furniture is solid, the furnishings respectable but the room seems cramped and the lineleum on the staircase shows signs of wear.
Part of an archive of forensic photography created between 1912 and 1964. This image is one of a series of 14 negatives contained in box no. 1351-1365.
