| Description: |
Marion Best's description of this scheme, published in The Housewife in 1953, explains that this room in a young man's flat "has a most depressing outlook" so that "the cafe curtains, which must stay drawn, are designed to let in the light, the sky and the stars. One wall is deep charcoal, the others are white. The ceiling is painted like a tent." She adds: "The chairs and candles, designed by Clem Meadmore, are black iron and white sash cord. The picture is by Saint Saens. The deer's head is by Jouve, in orange and black ceramic".
Further details of the furnishings from the English design annual, Decorative art, published in 1953: "Table top of terra-cotta tiles decorated with white slip made by Frau Baudisch." The curtains are made from printed cotton made by Frances Burke.
