The photograph shows a group of buildings associated with the building contractor John Young, a prominent figure in nineteenth-century Sydney. They are, from left to right: Claremont, Kenilworth, Highroyd, Hockingdon (popularly known as 'the witches houses'), Oybin and The Abbey. Two houses without spires, visible between Hockington and Oybin, are Oreba and Rozelle.
