Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society
The Reverend Thomas Hodson was born in North Scarle, Lincolnshire in 1804. In 1829 he was accepted as a candidate for the Wesleyan ministry and was appointed to India where he served at Calcutta (1829-33), Bangalore (1833-36), the Mysore district (1836), Goobbe (1837) and Mysore from 1838 to 1843 when ill-health forced his return to England. Hodson returned to India in 1853 serving as chairman and superintendent of the Mysore District until March 1878, when he left for England where he died on 9 September 1882.
