Throsby family photographs
If the identification on the back of this photograph is correct, then this
portrait depicts Miss Gittins, who was the governess to Patrick Hill
Throsby's children. According to a notice in the Sydney Morning
Herald, Wednesday 3rd February, 1932 in celebration of her 98th
birthday, she was born in Berwick-upon-Tweed, England, and came
to Sydney with her parents in 1852. At some time she was also
governess to the children of Sir Frederick and Lady Darley.
From a remnant photograph album "donated to Throsby Park Historic Site by Mrs. Grime 1978 - Mrs. Grime's mother was a Zouch" - handwriting of Rachel Roxburgh. [Emily Mary Throsby (1864-1943) married Richard Essington Zouch (1848-1917) in 1887. Their daughter, Marcia Throsby Zouch (1896- 1982) married John Essington Grime.]
