Description:
Dora Knowles Davies (formerly Walford), wearing pearl earrings and necklace and a fur cape, appears to be playing a modern and fashionable 1930s white piano. Dora lived in Winchester in the early 1940s while her son Leslie Walford was a student at Winchester College, firstly in Christchurch Road and then from September 1942 at no. 1 St Swithun Street, a house which abutted the walls of the Cathedral Close and was adjacent to Kingsgate, one of the city's 12th-century gateways. She remained there until June 1944.
