Description:
The foundation stone for this church, designed by Edmund Blacket, was laid in October 1875 and the chapel was opened for Divine service in February 1877. [ref. SMH 9.11.1875 p.6; 26.2.1877 p.3] George Thorne of Claremont, Rose Bay, was one of the original trustees of the church and this relationship may account for the inclusion of the photograph in a Thorne family album.
Transepts were added to the building in 1907 and 1910 by Cyril Blacket and the church was further altered and extended in 1928 and 1938 by Professor Leslie Wilkinson.
